UCLA Medical Center
Continuously ranked as the Best Hospital in the West by U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center is just one part of an extensive health care system belonging to the University of California, Los Angeles.
Open since 1955, this downtown Los Angeles facility has always been a pioneer in health care, especially in the fields of organ transplantation, cancer, heart health, pediatrics and neuroscience. The hospital treats an estimated 300,000 people each year, according to its records, and more than 100 of their attending physicians appear on lists touting "the Best Doctors in America."
While the UCLA Medical Center's cancer treatment program is all-encompassing, it does boast a special Thoracic Oncology Program that specifically addresses the treatment of cancer that affects the lungs or lung area, such as mesothelioma. Patients referred to the Thoracic Oncology Program are evaluated by a multidisciplinary team of professionals composed of thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pulmonologists, working together with research, nursing, and support staff.
In addition, the medical center is home to the Ted Mann Family Resource Center, part of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA. Its mission is to help patients and their families address the challenges of cancer by providing a wealth of resources about the disease as well as classes and support groups for both victims of cancer and their caregivers.
Another part of the Ted Mann Resource Center is Reflections, described as a boutique and consultation suite designed to help individuals manage the physical appearance changes brought about by cancer and its treatment.
