Fox Chase Cancer Center
An independent, nonprofit institution formed in 1974 by the union of American Oncologic Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center is a 100-bed hospital located in the greater Philadelphia area that specializes in the treatment of all types of cancer. In September 2000, the Hospital of Fox Chase Cancer Center became the nation's first comprehensive cancer center; there are now 40 such hospitals throughout the country. U.S. News and World Report has dubbed Fox Chase the 11th best cancer center in the nation.
Fox Chase's mission is centered around three sciences: 1) medical science - providing excellent patient care and conducting a broad-based program of clinical research, including clinical trials; 2) basic science - the hospital is renowned worldwide for its work in understanding both normal and abnormal cell growth and development; and 3) population science - with goals aimed at identifying people at high risk of cancer and developing strategies to reduce these risks through programs of prevention and early detection.
